What the numbers mean
Panasonic's catalog gives the rule for CR codes: the first two digits are the diameter in millimetres and the last two are the height in tenths of a millimetre. So 2025 and 2032 already tell you the whole story. Same 20 mm coin, same lithium chemistry, 0.7 mm apart in thickness. The extra height is extra capacity: CR2032 is rated 225 mAh (Panasonic) and 235 mAh (Energizer) on the cited sheets, CR2025 165 mAh (Panasonic) and 170 mAh (Energizer).
In a holder built for CR2032, a CR2025 sits 0.7 mm lower. Whether the contact spring still reaches it depends on the holder, which is why the rule here says do not swap. The other way round is simpler: a CR2032 is 0.7 mm too thick for a CR2025 hatch. Do not pad the gap with foil or paper.
Buy the code printed on the old cell. Any maker's CR2025 is the same cell as any other CR2025, and the same goes for CR2032. The other codes printed for CR2025 are DL2025, 5003LC. For CR2032 they are DL2032, KECR2032, 5004LC.
