LR44 vs 357 battery
Only if the device maker allows it. LR44 and 357 are the same 11.6 × 5.4 mm size, but LR44 is alkaline manganese button at 1.5 V and 357 is silver oxide at 1.55 V.
LR44 → 357 (SR44W)
Same size. Use only if the device maker permits this chemistry
Alkaline (LR) and silver oxide (SR) share this outline. Energizer's alkaline handbook allows alkaline in place of silver oxide only where the device maker recommends it. Alkaline voltage slopes down as it drains; silver oxide stays flat. If the device or the old cell says SR or a silver-oxide number, fit silver oxide.

What the numbers mean
Energizer's A76 product page lists 357 and SR44 among the labels A76 (LR44) replaces, so shops often sell them as one battery. They are one size. They are not one chemistry. LR44 is alkaline and its voltage slopes down as it drains. A 357 is silver oxide, and the silver-oxide manual describes a curve that stays flat for most of the discharge.
Energizer's alkaline handbook allows alkaline in place of silver oxide only where the device maker recommends it, and says to expect a shorter service life. The verdict here is the same in both directions: fit the chemistry the device or the old cell names. If the meter or the watch says 357, buy 357. If it says LR44, AG13 or A76, the alkaline cell was specified. On the cited sheets LR44 is rated 110 mAh (Renata) and 150 mAh (Energizer). SR44W (357) is rated 160 mAh (Renata) and 175 mAh (Energizer) and 150 mAh (Energizer 357/303 sheet).
357 is the high-drain silver-oxide cell. Its low-drain twin is SR44SW, sold as 303. Both carry the short code SR44, so SR44 alone does not say which drain you have. Other codes printed for LR44: A76, L1154, AG13, 1166A, V13GA, RW82, KA, 280-904, SB-F9, LR1154. For 357: V357, 280-62, SB-B9, 1131SO.
Both cells at real size
Lay the old cell on the outlines. LR44 is the solid shape, 357 the dashed one, at 1:1 once the screen is calibrated.

Calibrate this screen
Screens scale pages differently, so true size is only true after calibration. Hold a bank card or ID card (85.60 mm wide, ISO/IEC 7810 ID-1) against the bar and slide until the bar is exactly as wide as the card.
